A massive thanks to Belfast City Council who funded The Good Relations Programme in Sally Gardens Community Centre.

The young people really enjoyed the opportunity to put their views across sometimes in a most direct manner!

 

 

 

Children, children and even more children! The noise level really went up as Sally Gardens Community Centre went child crazy over a two week period in the summer of 2015. The staff organised a number of events including trips out and in house activities to keep the children excited and wanting more fun!

We had a fun filled two weeks and can’t WAIT to next year.. No doubt it will be bigger, better and LOUDER! We have to say a HUGE, HUGE thank you to our dedicated volunteers who supported us throughout the two weeks and more! A special thanks to Belfast City Council for funding this summer scheme.

 

Poleglass Community Association @ Sally Gardens have won the 2015 All Ireland Pride of Place Award Urban Neighbourhood category , a fantastic acknowledgment of the work our staff , management committee and volunteers do.  Community Work in the Colin area is alive and kicking.  The judges said in their citation: “On the judges’ visit to the winning entry community they quickly discerned from community representatives and third parties the immense improvement in community relations that has occurred here over the past decade. After many years of limited facilities a pitch for multi-sports use is under construction.  This along with a wide range of services has been the strong catalyst for lifting the self-esteem of the local population”.

 

 

On Friday 13^th November 2015 Pudsey Bear visited Poleglass Community Association @ Sally Gardens in aid of Children in Need. The Children in Need worker with the help of the local community planned a cake sale and hosted a Pudsey disco with all proceeds going to Children in Need. This event was a huge success and Sally Gardens would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community including for taking the time to bake/buying/donating to this worthwhile cause.  Declan’s Express Costcutter also contributed £200 from proceeds raised on the day, a massive thank you to the staff.

A special thanks also to the Principal Mr McAlea and his staff at St Kieran’s primary school for welcoming Pudsey to the school and for taking time out of their busy schedules in order to visit Pudsey at the centre.

Belfast City Council Capacity Building Grant has enabled Poleglass Community Association @ Sally Gardens to deliver OCN Level 2 Community Development Course to residents.  The OCN NI Level 2 Award in Community Development (QCF) qualification is targeted at community development practitioners, providing learners with knowledge in community development, community group structure and understanding of diversity and inequality issues. In addition the qualification will be offered to people wanting to volunteer or get into community development themed employment.
